How to record Covers on e-Drums using Phone only

In this article, I will show you how to record drum covers using only your phone. This means that you can play your drums on top of existing music and it all will be recorded together in video or just audio.

To achieve this you will need the following things-

1. Two phones– one to play music and another to record the audio or video.

2. An irig2. It’s easily available on amazon for less than 10$.

3. A 6.35mm to 6.35mm cable to connect the irig with the module.

4. (optional) A 3.5mm aux cable. It’s to connect your phone to the module to play music. If your module has Bluetooth then this step is not needed.

Take the 3. 5mm cable and connect one end to your phone and the other to the Aux-in port on your module. Then take the 6.35mm cable and connect one end to the irig2 and the other end to the output port on your module. Most modules have two- a left & a right. It doesn’t matter which one you use- both work the same. Now you can connect the irig2 to your second phone and start recording.

Best Phones for Recording E-drum covers

Do note that some phones don’t record audio clearly, especially the ones by Samsung and Realme. If that happens you have to test other phones until you find the right one. Invite your friends and relatives over and test out their phones to find one that records in clear quality audio.

Some users reported having problems with iphones too. The ones that worked out well for me were Redmi, Poco and Vivo. If your phone doesn’t have a headphone jack you can use a USB-C adapter. My current one is the Redmi Note 13 Pro as it ticks all my boxes- headphone jack, clear audio recording and 4K video. Check the video below for a more graphic tutorial-
